Skype’s Shallow Apology

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

I find it odd, as a paying Skype user, they would leave out one class of user from their latest apology maneuver. Here is part of the email sent out to users, including me.
As a goodwill gesture to all you faithful Skype Pro, Skype Unlimited, SkypeIn or Skype Voicemail customers, we’re adding an additional seven [...]

Skype Says Some Users Can Connect Again

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Skype started working at my house at 9:30 PM (CDT) last night, and still connects this morning. It looks like they have fixed the software glitch plaguing the service yesterday.
The Skype website says the problem is stabilizing and should be completely resolved soon. That’s really good news.

Skype is Out … What do we do?

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Did you know Skype is having trouble today? If you are a Skype user, like me, you became aware early this morning when you tried to make that first phone call.
Today’s Skype outage affects a lot of people, not the least of which is me. I have Skype Out and make most of my [...]

Skype Slips Into Business

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

I have been a fan of Skype since last year when I was talking to Denmark several times for interviews for Motivation on the Run. Today I use it for work, from the home office, rather than tie up the home line.
It works extremely well, most of the time, and the call quality is [...]

Commentary : Next-Generation Internet Not Guaranteed

Friday, June 23rd, 2006

For some time now, I felt as if I were a lone voice crying in the wilderness. Today a commentary in Technology News, by Sonia Arrison, covers a lot of the same information I have been writing about for a while, and does so in a clear and concise manner. If you are for government [...]

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

People that use Vonage for their primary telephone service should pay close attention to this article and the ensuing lawsuit. Verizon holds a large number of VoIP patents and Vonage holds zero, yet uses many patented technologies to provide their VoIP telephone service.
Verizon is asking for an injunction against Vonage, which could shut down [...]

Vonage Stock Trips in First Day of Trading

Monday, May 29th, 2006

I am fascinated by this IPO by Vonage. They are the most prominent and probably the VoIP service with the most customers, but they are generating a huge black smoking hole with the money they are burning through. It seems to me I remember reading their burn rate was something like $100,000 per month. Not [...]

Skype Goes for Broke

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

The predictions have been that telephone service would be free, but I never imagined it would be this soon. Skype (owned by eBay) has opened up the service, Skype Out, to the United States and Canada for free. All you have to do is download the free client and set it up, then begin calling [...]

VoIP Live in Galveston County

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

The latest technology is in place in Galveston County and belongs to the Emergency Communication District. A private VoIP 911 call center that enables a lot of extra features that benefit the emergency personnel. I would like a lot more information on this installation from technology jealousy and professional curiosity.

Hybrid VoIP/POTS phone shows potential

Friday, March 24th, 2006

I do not completely understand everything they tried to say about this telephone, but it could be an extremely versatile handset. This could be the beginning of something good in the race to incorporate the different technologies. What do you think?
