Radio-Controlled Fun with the Camaro and Challenger

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Last week was birthday present time for the Granddaughter, so I headed to the toy section of the local big box store. I never pass up the chance to check out the big boy toys, and on this trip, I hit pay dirt.

Save Internet Freedom—from regulation

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

I’ve been against the net-neutrality movement from the beginning, stating my mistrust of any government involvement in a free and open Internet. It goes hand-in-hand with my views on Muni-Wifi, where my experience with wireless technology and business showed no viable business model long before Earthlink started to re-think their position.
Today on c|net’s News.com, [...]

More on the Bullitt Mustang

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

With the previous Bullitt Mustang video I mentioned it was too short and didn’t take place on the hills of San Francisco. Well, this video still doesn’t take place on the streets of San Francisco, but is just over five minutes long.
Popular Mechanics provides lots of video of the car and talks to the [...]

The Bullitt Mustang Revisited

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Ford announced another Special Edition Mustang last week. This one is a remake of the Mustang driven by Steve McQueen in the movie Bullitt. The video is too short and wasn’t filmed on the streets of San Francisco, but the ‘Stang looks remarkable like the original … if you squint.

IBM Lotus Symphony Review

Monday, September 24th, 2007

I was excited when the news broke about IBM releasing their branch of OpenOffice as a free download. Not for the reason you think—yes, free is nice, but I wanted to see what they had done with the interface. WiMax … the ultimate solution for replacing the incumbent carrier over the last mile. That’s how some companies are positioning this product, including Sprint. This announcement yesterday about their new name for WiMax services got me thinking about the reality of last mile replacement and how WiMax will fulfill that destiny. (The included link goes [...]

MuniFi, VoIP & Great (UnMet) Expecations

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

More disappointment for the Muni Wifi proponents today, as Om Malik exposes more of the truth about these deployments. The article covers many of the same aspects I have discussed before, but adds a quote by Andy Abramson about the Tropos mesh networks.

Brit Broadband Often Half Touted Speed

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

Have you tested your connection for download and upload speeds? Are they even close to what you thought you bought?
This Business Week article tells about a consumer rights group in the UK trying to correct the mis-match of what you are sold, and what you get. The problem exists in the U.S., as well. Many [...]

London Gets Free Wi-Fi Network

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Free is good, slow is bad. This news from London and online-4-free.com provides free wireless Internet access for the low, low price of watching ads. Even the paid price isn’t terrible at ~$4.50/hour, but the speed of the network will have to improve if they want many takers.
