Skype is Out … What do we do?
By Larry Hendrick | August 16, 2007
Did you know Skype is having trouble today? If you are a Skype user, like me, you became aware early this morning when you tried to make that first phone call.
Today’s Skype outage affects a lot of people, not the least of which is me. I have Skype Out and make most of my outbound calls using this service. It works great … most of the time. Today is the exception for me.
Today, I hi-jacked my wife’s land line for telephone calls, and remembered another reason I like using Skype. Using a headset! Having to hold the handset creates a lot of problems. It’s hard to type one-handed, and the volume control isn’t as good.
Over at VoIP Watch, Andy posted several alternatives, but the best part is a small update at the bottom of the article. He references Tom Keating, who speculates the outage might be tied to the Microsoft update delivered yesterday and last night.
Microsoft updated my computer overnight and rebooted automatically. This morning my Skype wasn’t working.
Hmmm … coincidence?
Here’s the notice from their site.
