WiTricity Cures Digital Divide
By Larry Hendrick | June 15, 2007
I can’t stop thinking about this news article about WiTricity. It is the perfect solution to bridge the digital divide. No No … let me explain.
Today @ PC World “WiTricity” Delivers Wireless Power Transmission
We moved one step closer to a world where plugging in your laptop, cell phone, iPod, and even a lamp for power is no longer required. Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a wireless electricity called “WiTricity” that can transmit electricity wirelessly.
In a proof of concept demonstration of the technology MIT researchers were able to light a 60W light bulb from a power source seven feet away with no physical connection between the source and the lamp.
In this image the coil on the left is transmitting electricity to the coil on the right powering a 60W light bulb. Members of the team that performed the experiment are obstructing the direct line of sight between the coils.
Made for Cities
Cities that are working hard to launch their muni WiFi programs have forgotten an important component: those most affected by the lack of Internet access, also lack the basics—electricity, food, hardware and software. Because cities aren’t willing to compete with private enterprise in the low-profit margin areas of groceries or computers, this high-margin product is a match made in heaven (or manna on the ground, depending on your elevation).
At this early stage of development, many might think it’s not ready to roll out, but with a seven foot range, this product is prime for municipalities to build city-wide grids, thereby alleviating the lack of juice to the poorest neighborhoods. Think of our most underprivileged citizens living without electricity—under bridges and underpasses. Some living in the squaller of burned out, wet cardboard boxes, struggling to survive … waiting for the library to open so they can get their next Internet fix.
Ready and Willing
I know several companies (and a few high paid consultants like yours truly) ready to implement this application, if the cities will give free access to the water system and sign up as the anchor customer. The companies assure me they will roll out WiTricity in the neediest neighborhoods, as soon as their bottom line turns black (meaning makes a profit for you non-accountant types).
Several cities are forming non-profit exploratory committees to study this too good to be true phenomena laid at their feet, excitedly probing how to cover the expense (that’s bury to you non-accountant types), without the taxpayers realizing where the money is coming from.
Cities wanting my services for a WiTricity feasibility study, can reach me at larry@larryhendrick.com or call me (I’m in the book). My schedule is limited, and I’m sure I will book up quickly, so don’t hesitate in contacting me.
Act Now
Do it now, don’t wait. Just pick up that Logitech MX-3200 laser, wireless mouse and keyboard combination and quickly drop me a line. Don’t miss this opportunity of a city-time to be the first to launch your very own WiTricity grid. Be a leader and make the hard decisions; then other city leaders will flock to visit your city to study a dream realized.
Act now, before someone beats you to it. Time is short, with the clock ticking down on this becoming old news. You need to grab it with gusto before the short window of time passes your city.
Towns are welcome too, but understand that our first discussion centers around budget. Primarily— whether you have enough in the bank to cover my fees.
Remember, private industry will pay for the build-out, and any tax dollars used will be buried deep down in the general budget so no one will find it.
What are you waiting for—I haven’t received a single email yet. Get off your lazy, no good Email me immediately for fastest results. You can’t afford to let this opportunity slip by.
Sunday Sunday SundayNow! Now! Now!
Thank you for your patronage.

and how exactly does this differ from Nikolai Tesla’s concept from the turn of the LAST century?

They probably used Tesla's methods. Poor guy got railroaded by his competitors and ruined.
