Seth’s Blog: Where do you park?

By Larry Hendrick | March 7, 2007

Today I was struck by the irony of it all. Reading Seth’s blog, he tells a story about a bank manager hogging the close parking spaces in front of the bank. I thought I would leave a quick comment on the blog about a similar story I witnessed a few years ago. There’s one big problem with that scenario.

You can’t leave a comment on Seth’s blog. Violating his own declarations for businesses, there is no easy way to interact with Seth about a story he writes. Comments aren’t allowed, but trackbacks are. He does include a Yahoo email address, but that’s not in the public forum. Unless you have a blog (for trackbacks) it can’t be done. I guess his site is a dais rather than a blog.

I’m still going to tell my story, but it will be here after the quote.

Seth’s Blog: Where do you park?

the manager parks right out front (in fact, I saw her move her car from two spaces away to an even closer spot today). She has four or five people working in the branch, so if they follow her lead, that’s half the spaces.

My Short Story

A few years ago, if you visit the Gray County Courthouse in Pampa, Texas, the first thing you’d notice was all the parking spaces around the courthouse designated for employees only. There was a small parking lot and side street parking, and all were saved. On vacation a few months ago, we were in Pampa and I noticed that three or four spaces near the front now have 15 minute customer parking signs. The rest are still private parking for employees.

This is particularly problematic when potential jurors are called for a trial. That brings another 60 to 75 cars to the downtown area. Lots of fun.

Oh, and if you have similar story, make sure and leave it in the comments. I’d like to hear it. Really!

P.S. I’m not upset about Seth blocking comments, it just strikes me as ironic.
