Billboards: Would-be Wi-Fi Competitors?

By Larry Hendrick | February 28, 2007

Since CBS isn’t in the IT industry, it’s difficult to imagine them implementing a plan of this proportion, but it adds to the conversation. There are many companies trying to determine how to implement a profitable program of wireless Internet.

Again, the problem with using 802.11x for this are many.

  1. limited distance
  2. fragile signals
  3. interference
  4. lack of speed
  5. public sector frequencies
  6. unreliability

And that’s just a very short list of what needs to be improved upon before this will work. As each of these problems get worked out, the process will become a live option, rather than the current pipe dream. I’m excited about the future of everywhere wireless connectivity, but only when it’s real.
