Dan Bricklin goes 1.0 with open-source wikiCalc
By Larry Hendrick | January 28, 2007
This is exciting news for those that prefer to work with online tools. I haven’t used this yet, but have a long-standing fascination with wikis and now one that allows the sharing of spreadsheets.
I’m not sure how it compares with the operations of Google Spreadsheets or Zoho’s Sheet online programs. They both work very well, keeping in mind the limitations.
Something to keep in mind and experiment with.

Dan Bricklin, the pioneering programmer behind the first PC spreadsheet, said that his open-source wiki spreadsheet has reached the 1.0 milestone.
On his blog on Thursday, Bricklin spelled out the details of the release process and said that the wikiCalc 1.0 code will form the basis of an open-source project sponsored by partner Socialtext, called SocialCalc.
wikiCalc lets people create and share Web pages that include text as well as spreadsheets.

No Dave, I have not looked at this. It seems very interesting, although it will take a closer examination. I’m not sure what I (general public) might use it for, but that might be obvious by digging in.
