Verizon Markets Services at Mall Stores

By Larry Hendrick | December 27, 2006

Verizon StoreOpening stores in malls is a new way for a large telco to get interest. I assume they will only open stores where the Fios network is available, but within the next few years, that will expand to a large chunk of their service area.

I talked to one of their people about this very subject in September and Verizon is expanding at an aggressive pace to get ahead of their competitors. Looking at the price points, installing fiber is now cheaper than copper. No reason not to use fiber where replacement cycles have come up.

Just think … 30Mbs for less than $40. And business class 100Mbs for less than $200. That’s what I’m waiting for.

The stores, called Verizon Experience, provide a snazzy setting for people to toy with new gadgets, play computer games, lounge in front of high-definition TV sets and see how they’re all enhanced by FiOS, its multibillion dollar effort to replace the copper wires of its telephone network with high-capacity fiber-optic lines.

“This is a place where you can touch and feel and see it all, and it’s all under one roof,” said Verizon Wireless spokesman John Johnson, who said the company is not abandoning its other marketing and retail strategies.
