1400 Miles Behind, Some to Go

By Larry Hendrick | December 1, 2006

The sunset is as magnificent as I remember. The Redhead and I, getting near my Mom’s house, enjoy the beautiful pinks and purples as the sun drifts below the horizon.

It’s been two years since we viewed a Panhandle sunset in person, but you never forget. Even Spielberg knew this, shooting the final “riding off into the sunset” scene for Raiders of the Lost Ark Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in that same location.

I didn’t mention the vacation on the blogs, thinking I could still post each day and stay on top of the news. I was wrong!

First, dial-up should not be considered Internet access and should be banned from existence (really!). Second, EVDO access should be universal in the State of Texas (my cell phone showed “no service” for about six hours of yesterday’s 10-hour trip).

Now, 1400 miles later, still four hours from the house, I have a few minutes and a DSL connection at my disposal.

Who knew it would be this hard. Not me, that’s for sure.
