It Must Just Be Me!

By Larry Hendrick | September 8, 2006

Last night the new television show ’til Death debuted and I don’t know if it’s just me, but I lasted about seven minutes. That’s it, just muted the sound and went looking for something else to watch.

The show has at least one of the actors from the Raymond or something show that, in several tries, I never lasted even that long. Less than five minutes was my record for watching Ray Romano’s show. Since it was such a highly rated show, (if you believe that, and I do have issues with the way Neilson works) I have to assume that it is just me. Do most people enjoy humor that is geared toward ten year olds? Is that what we’ve sunk to?

Don’t get me wrong, I love comedies and sitcoms when they are smart and intelligent, but neither ’til Death, nor Raymond fit those categories. In fact, there have been very few that fall into that category, which may explain why I don’t watch that many sitcoms these days.

Smart and intelligent would include shows like Frank’s Place and The Gilmore Girls and even a show like Brisco County Jr.. I even find Everybody loves Chris enjoyable. It doesn’t sink to profanity, body humor, or references to female body parts to be funny.

So, what happened on ’til Death? Less than three minutes in, the star is calling a kid a name that is not flattering (referencing female accessories) and then making jokes about female body parts. I’m sorry, but I outgrew this type humor when I graduated Junior High at age 13, but it seems that the studios haven’t.

Do you want humor, drama, and intellegent stories? Then bring back the likes of Firefly.

Okay, I’m done. Now it’s your turn.
