GM revives Chevrolet Camaro muscle car
By Larry Hendrick | August 10, 2006
General Motors makes it official today. They will re-introduce the Camaro in 2009. That is a long wait, but for heavy-duty Chevrolet fans, it will breeze by quickly.
The best part is that the styling will stay very close to the concept car Chevrolet showed at the car shows earlier this year. Even though I’m not a huge Chevy fan, this car rocks! Well done, GM.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (Reuters) — General Motors (GM) said Thursday it would build a revived version of the Camaro muscle car to go on sale in early 2009.
GM said it would begin production of the Camaro at the end of 2008. The production model of the car will be almost identical to the concept version of the sport coupe unveiled at the Detroit auto show in January, GM said. The Camaro concept, which designers touted as a modern take on the 1969 version of the sports car, won positive reviews from auto critics and inspired loyalists to start petition drives to encourage GM to rush the model into production.

Chevy needs to get this car out fast. Ford’s Mustang has been out for a while and with Dodge’s Charger and the new Challenger coming soon, Chevy needs to hop on the bandwagon and start kicking A** again with their rear wheel drive V8 sports cars. It’s been too long since the Camaros and Firebirds ruled the roads.

Patience, my boy, patience. With the release model of 2009, the Camero should arrive in showrooms in less than 9 months. The wait is almost over.

I’m so glad they revived this brand and brought it back to its roots. The late 90’s Camaros were so ugly, but the new Camaros look like retro muscle cars, except with modern luxuries.

I agree completely, CM. I like the resurgence of the classic influence on the modern cars. The Camaro, the Challenger, and the Mustang are fantastic modern cars that harken back to my youth. That’s cool!
