The Future of High Speed Part 2

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

I want to return to the EVDO article of Monday with more thoughts.
I continue to think about the possibility of high speed wireless Internet connectivity, everywhere, and only see the one solution as viable at this time? WiMax is the other possibility, but we might be old and fading before we see any real implementation [...]

Star Clusters Hold Secrets to Stellar Evolution
Astronomy is a science of observation. Unlike biologists or chemists, astronomers can’t manipulate the objects they study. And against a night sky whose stellar inhabitants all appear identical, gauging even simple things about a star, such as its distanc

The Future of High Speed

Monday, April 17th, 2006

When looking at the different business models for High Speed Wireless Internet, I keep being drawn to the cellular platform. Currently EVDO is delivering speeds up to 2mbs and that’s not bad. The average speed I get with EVDO hooked up to the laptop is 400-500kbs which is respectable, even if not as fast as [...]

Houston WiFi plan may bring Internet access at a price

Monday, April 17th, 2006

This article is the first one that has mentioned the issue of profit for any company that might be interested in working with the city to implement a WiFi product. It seems that someone has come to their senses for the moment, at least.
The advocates for free Internet for all must live in a [...]

How does BlogDesk Handle Pictures?

Sunday, April 16th, 2006

One thing that blogging software, like BlogDesk, makes easier, is picture handling. All that it requires is having a picture on your hard drive and inserting the image. The software does all the heavy lifting by allowing you to decide where you want the picture and the words in relationship with each other. BlogDesk [...]

It seems that WiFi is the topic of the week with another story about another city awarding a contract to cover the city. This time it is Portland, Oregon and the job goes to MetroFi Inc. of Los Angeles. They are also planning an ad supported network. That’s going to be a lot of ads.
MetroFi [...]

Google’s New Calendar

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

Google’s latest release to the public is a web calendar that is based on AJAX, the new buzzword around the web. It also follows the standard Google philosophy of minimal rather than maximum when referring to the interface.
If you currently have a gmail account with Google, all you have to do is head over to [...]

zBlogWriter Blogging Software

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

zBlogWriter is definitely harder to setup than the other packages. It asks for your site along with username and password, then you have to supply it with the xmlprc location to post to your site. I fear that most novices would be unable to determine this information without a lot of digging into help files.
It [...]
