Google Sees Things in 3D

By Larry Hendrick | April 28, 2006

It’s Friday, so it must be “Google release another free product” day. Google bought @Last Software which sells a professional 3D modeling software product (which Google will continue to sell) and they have released a free version for consumers.

I have not had the chance to try this product out, so I will be anxious to read other experiences with it, whose hardware will handle the rendering. If you have tried it, let me know… thanks.

Google’s interest in artwork now goes beyond the illustrations you see on the search engine’s home page. The company has released a free version of Google Sketchup, a tool for creating, viewing, and modifying 3D images.

SketchUp is available for download.
