The 1st Birthday
By Larry Hendrick | November 19, 2005
A first birthday is always fun to attend and see all the smiling faces and happy people. Doting and showing off the accomplishments of the young one.
This is a little different, but the doting and showing off are real. I received my Palm Tungsten T5 one year ago yesterday. It is still awesome and gets the highest rating from me. Videos, MP3s, Goal Setting and Organization are but a small part of what my T5 can do. It helps me get there on time, it reminds me of the secretary’s name and when her birthday is.
I have written several times about the T5 and how happy I am with it, and this is an update that is about the first year of our relationship. I have written about the Granddaughter videos and pictures, the ebooks, and the MP3s before, so there is no need for a rehash here, but I will write about other things that have happened.
The crashing has been completely eliminated with the firmware update that Palm released and by removing AvantGo. It seems AvantGo was causing most of the problems all along. The firmware update stopped the sync crashes and the removal of AvantGo stopped the rest. I have been crash free for months now and the distant memory is fading quickly.
The 1GB SD card now is installed and holds tons of podcasts and music. The Bluetooth now connects to a Motorola 815 phone for Internet connectivity used mostly for email. Now it is a complete communication device and that is really great.
It turned one and I enjoy showing it off and using it as not only my organizational unit, but my entertainment center, also.
Palm got this one right…I still recommend it when given the chance.
