In the Interest of Safety
By Larry Hendrick | September 21, 2005
Galveston County is under mandatory evacuation as of 6:00 pm today, Wednesday 21, 2005. If you wait until then to leave you are told where you can go and the redhead and I had no desire to go to Lufkin. Nothing against Lufkin, it’s just that the kids are in San Marcos and I figure that to get to San Marcus by way of Lufkin would take the better part of a day. That is why we left this morning while the voluntary evacuation was still in effect.
Even so, it took almost 2 more hours to get to San Marcus than usual. Traffic and road work were terrible, but we are here safe and sound, and no worse for the wear.
That is an old phrase that a lot of younger people might not have heard before, but it is the perfect description for the moment.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Rita and what category it is when it does land Friday or Saturday.
Be safe…
