Verizon Wireless
By Larry Hendrick | August 28, 2005
Now while it’s perhaps not entirely fair to judge the Motorola in ease of use terms - because its capabilities far outstrip what I used to have - it’s still a poorly designed phone, IMO. Beyond the usability, the battery life is poor, the thing is too big, the antenna’s flimsy, and the first one I got broke almost immediately.
I’m not sure if it was good or not to have my worst fears confirmed. The Sprint phone is gone and the Verizon phone is here. For the last few days I have been underwhelmed by the Motorola e815 which is the supposed replacement phone for the V710. The e815 includes EVDO which I have to honestly say seems slower than the 1xRTT on the Sprint network. I have not seen the high speed promised by EVDO but have witnessed it on the PC cards that have an $80/month fee for the unlimited plan (dropping to $60 according to rumors today).
I come from the Palm point of view where the GUI is supposed to be intuitive and is brilliant in its simplicity. The one on the Motorola does not fit this criteria being the most confusing interface I have come across in a long time.
This could be really ugly for the next two years…
