Firefox Marches On

By Larry Hendrick | June 2, 2005

Firefox browser is now at 25%. WOW!

BayouBuzz.com - Louisiana Politics and News

According to figures from w3schools.com which is a site frequented by the Browser elite, Netscape is not even a pimple on a mole. For them, the real browser battle is between Microsoft IE and Firefox. Microsoft makes up 65% of use while Firefox is now up to 25%.

I had previously raved about the Firefox browser on this site and this is very satisfying. It does show that people will go out of their way to use a better product.

Other technology based websites have stated that Firefox is now more than 50% of their traffic, while admiting they are frequented by the more geeky of users. I believe that the revolution will continue and unless/until Microsoft releases a major revision to IE with better security, Firefox will continue to grow.

MS is working on a full scale upgrade to IE, but it appears some time before the release will make it to computers near you.

Score another for the underdog as Firefox marches on…

I notice my daughter has put Firefox aside. Many just don’t get security. I’m on Mozilla Suite now and find that O.K. I hardly consider myself a geek, but it isn’t that tough to try different browsers.

You are correct on the security issue. I and a lot of other people have determined that IE is just not safe to run in the current state of the Internet. On the personal side, I use Firefox and Thunderbird. I really do not need the rest of the suite. At work, we are on an Exchange server so I use Outlook for email. It is something we are looking at though.
