Sometimes 2nd Thoughts are Good
By Larry Hendrick | May 24, 2005
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union…
The opening of the US Constitution has popped into my head as I thought about posting on a news item I just read. As it came to mind, I thought better of it, but will post a few thoughts about the subject.
Just because someone is famous (or infamous), does not make what comes out of their mouth important. Now don’t get me wrong, we the people have every right to express ourselves on any subject we like, hence this blog of mine where I do just that.
However, I still have a problem with celebrities being elevated in papers and used by “journalists” to make a point. There are a few famous people that are articulate, diplomatic and can express themselves in public with amazing clarity. There are a few…
The vast majority of those that get quoted and referenced regularly, should be content with being on stage, singing or acting, but should not be allowed to speak in public. They have neither wisdom nor insight into subjects they are asked to comment on. They get used because they can be “good copy” and sell lots of papers or magazines.
They have a right to say it, but I have an equal right to not have to listen to it. Especially when it is presented as from a “spokesperson” for a group of other people who have not elected this person to speak for them! That is important.
So to those who fit this description, I beg of you, when someone shoves a microphone in your face and asks a question on something other than your profession, think twice..no three times before replying. You could be doing us all a favor.
