Jeremy is a Mind Reader

Ensight - Jeremy Wright

This is an inflection point.

If you are not familiar with Jeremy’s blog ensight, you need to bookmark and stay in touch with it. This article puts in words what I have been thinking for about a month. This is definetly an inflection point and blogging as we know it is about to become “mainstream” in the mind of every day people.

Right now, with all the readers of blogs, most are not your “average” consumer of information. Most read blogs that are on an interesting topic or one that belongs to a family member (hi mom).

With the news from the last few weeks (it is a neilson ratings period for TV) television is losing audience, newspaper circulations are dropping, and I would suspect (though I have not seen hard numbers) that magazine subscriptions are falling as well. I make this assumption based on the fact that a lot of very expensive magazines are now giving away “free” issues and in some cases a free one year subscription. They have to keep their numbers up also for advertisers. Even free deliveries count for total subscription numbers.

So what does this mean to bloggers? Well, I think it means that John Q Public is about to discover the wonderful wealth of information available to them on the Internet. I must admit, I get most of my news from the Internet now. I do not pay for any magazines that I get, and I do not get a daily newspaper anymore. I do believe that I, and other like me, are just ahead of the curve, but not much. I think the time is ripe.

So much so that at work, I am pushing for our webhosting business to expand and offer special packages for bloggers. I do not have all the details worked out yet, but the idea is for us to offer premium services with different hosted solutions for bloggers. Working with the different blog software vendors to offer their products installed, configured and customized for someone to move right in and begin the adventure. A small monthly hosting fee would cover special features, add-ons and custom configurations for those who are HTML deficient.

Yes, this is a most exciting time and definetly a “point of inflection” for this growing medium.
