I Don’t Think They Get It
By Larry Hendrick | May 2, 2005
I am still digesting the significance of the announcements by Sirius Satellite Radio and Infinity Broadcasting.
HoustonChronicle.com - Sirius to offer ‘podcast’ show
Some radio stations have offered podcasts of selected shows to
listeners to download, but so far it’s very unusual for radio stations
to play podcasts on their air. Infinity claimed its station in San
Francisco, KYCY-AM 1550, will be the first to adopt an all-podcast
format.
Infinity, in particular, is changing the format of one of their stations to broadcast podcasts. So they are going to broadcast a radio show at a specific time, with commercials and listeners will sit by their radios waiting for the next podcast to begin. Huh!? Also, they stated that they were soliciting podcasts from people, but that they would not compensate them for their time (this from another report)
Podcasts are to listen to what I want, when I want, where I want without the constraints of radio. I can start a one hour cast in the car on the way to work, and finish it up on the way home that evening. It is totally in my control.
It seems to me that they have missed the whole point. It’s not about them…
What podcasts are you listening to?
