News this Past Week
By Larry Hendrick | April 29, 2005
Business headline watching has been very interesting this past week. I am referring to Microsoft and Apple, in particular.
Let see, Apple sues a publisher, Tiger Direct sues Apple. Nothing new there. Steve Jobs doesn’t like the unauthorized biography and removes all of this publishers books from the Apple stores. Tiger Direct doesn’t like all this publicity for Apple’s Tiger that is being heaped on and files a suit trying to halt the distribution that is to begin today.
Do you want to know the real reason Tiger Direct is mad. Go to Google and search for Tiger. Now what do you see? Apple OS X Tiger, Tiger Woods, and Tiger Direct. It seems they are upset about all this attention going somewhere else. I guess Tiger Woods should watch out for the legal notices. He might be next.
Here’s another question, where is Microsoft in all this. I have not seen Microsoft mentioned in a lawsuit since early this month and they are the quintessential “most likely to be sued” company. Oh yeah, they are having a big conference this week displaying the NOT soon to be released OS Longhorn. This is still years away (it doesn’t really count until SP1 is released).
The reports from Redmond have been less than stellar. Everyone was issued an early beta of Longhorn and when they started posting screenshots on their blogs and websites, Microsoft got all kinds of upset. It seems that the very fine print, down on like page 9653, excluded them from doing this.
Next week should continue the fun with all the reports of the Microsoft show, and first hand reports of OS X Tiger.
WOW!
