Motivation on the Run

Welcome to Wiki2008. The tracking wiki for this year-long project is MotRWiki.pbwiki.com (Key – MotRWiki2008). The following is from the front page of the wiki.

This is the beginning of my Wiki2008 project to learn about and use Wikis. It serves as the central repository for what I learn through the year as well as information added by guests. As the year progresses and different Wiki software is used, reviews will appear on these pages.

This Wiki is intended to be a collaborative effort digging into different Wiki structures and ease of use. Many websites contain huge lists of Wikis with spreadsheet matrixes spelling out hundreds of features for each product. That is not what this Wiki is all about. This is a learning resource that will include pages dedicated to Wiki reviews that are hands-on. Long lists of features have their place when comparing different products, but at some point, a hands-on summary is the best source for decision making.

This is a community project where everyone can participate. MotRWiki is a sharing project so that all of us can learn more about the use of wikis and, more importantly, which wikis are best suited for what application.

The value is derived when we explore different wikis and rate them for personal and business, ease of use, ease of installation (if needed), ease of modification, and anything else that comes up in using them. With everyone’s help, we can build a repository of knowledge that is useful for everyone making a decision about a personal or business wiki. That’s cool.

The Wiki2008 wiki is on PBWiki because of a few recommendations and no installation requirements. It is part of the review process along with many others. You must set up a free account at PBWiki to contribute to the wiki, but they only require an email address and a password … that’s it. To edit MotRWiki you will need the KEY, which is MotRWiki2008. That should be easy enough to remember … the wiki name plus the year.

Your participation is required for the success of this goal. You will choose a wiki to explore, or share about one you currently use at work or personally. Reviews are to be posted on MotRWiki2008 for all to see.

The goal is not necessarily to rate them against each other, but against a set of judging parameters. I think a scale of 1-5 is sufficient and if applied to every criteria, a total can be produced. This will be helpful for those looking for a wiki with a specific need.  There is more information on the Wiki page about this system.
