Writing an article for The Daily Flag on changing my routine to increase productivity made me think about how change affects our routines.
Can a change in routine motivate and inspire us to new vistas? We are constantly told that change is good, but let me add, change for the better is good, while change for changes sake may not be.
We so easily get stuck in ruts, then wonder why nothing ever changes. Routine can be good, but done to excess, maybe not.
What are some of the reasons we might need to change?
Reasons for change
- boredom
- productivity
- get out of the rut
- motivation
- inspiration
- health
Examples
In fact, think about these changes.
- Calendars have a different picture for each month
- Rearrange the furniture
- Exploring a new restaurant
- Changing the computer background/colors/etc
- Trying a different cereal for breakfast
- Moving (from boredom? … maybe not)
- Driving to work by another road
- Buying your morning coffee at a different coffee shop
- Moving your desk to the other wall
- Wearing that plaid shirt with the strange green pants
- Sending the kids to bed early
- Answer the telephone with your middle name that no one knows
- Change your voicemail message everyday and use that funny voice
Well, some change is better than others, as you can see.
What about you? Why do you embrace change? Let me know in the comments.
