Last night I had the privilege to present mind mapping to the League City Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). I hope they had half as much fun as I did, and if time is an indicator, they did. The meeting ran almost an hour over, and it was all my fault.
I was invited to share the concept of mind mapping and to facilitate a brainstorming session for their membership drive that kicks off next month. I have to admit, I felt a little like Howie Mandel, surrounded by all those lovely ladies, having their focused, undivided attention. It was great!
I began with a basic overview of mind mapping, the history, the why, the how, the software, and a list of resources available on the web. We discussed goal setting, project planning, project management and how to utilize resources. The ladies asked a lot of great questions about the process and the methods.
“How do you organize it?”, “When do you analyze the ideas?”, “How do you decide which ideas are good and remove the bad ones?”, “What does the software cost?”, “Where can I download software?”, etc.
The brainstorming session was shortened by the time we got to it, but many great ideas were generated.
They were interested, excited, and a great audience. I think they will do fantastic with their membership drive next month. Here’s looking at you, LCC ABWA!

It sounds like a good time was had by all. That’s great. I do a lot of mindmapping myself, but I have never facilitated a mindmapping session. it sounds like fun.

It was a lot of fun, Troy. I talked to the President of the Club a week later and all the feedback was great, so it looks like they did have as much fun as I did.
