The ‘Secret’ Word is ‘Energize?’

December 19th, 2006 · No Comments

Supergize, Thundergize, Fantastigize, and Humongagize

Several words are all the rage now and I fear a few good words begin to lose their potent charm. Words like motivate, engage, and at the top of the list, energize.

I listen to many business podcasts, particularly those dealing with motivation and employees, and those three words are used repeatedly in them all. The words are great words, but I fear for the ever increasing need to surpass the previous reference will deteriorate the words and their meanings.

Motivate, part of the name of this site, is rich and full of meaning, as individuals seek the items they deem important. However, as the dilution of the word grows, the need for Extreme Motivation, or Stellar Motivation will surely come about. It’s already happening to other words, requiring ever stronger adjectives to ratchet up the meaning just to drive home a point.

Energize is beginning its journey to a higher plane and I’m not sure I relish the thought. To get our point across, we have to Supergize, Thundergize, Fantastigize, and Humongagize, leaving poor energize in the dust.

The real test is passing a spell checker. That determines when a new word is ready to supplant its predecessor.

What are some of your favorite SUPER words?
