Personal Development

July 24th, 2006 · 4 Comments

Personal development is a concept I have seen more of in the last two months, than in the rest of my adult life. Articles on every website, articles on every blog site, and even in print. The other evening I was flipping channels on the television and on PBS (fund raising time) they were showing a DVD being offered of someone with a familiar face (I can’t remember his name), sharing his wisdom and philosophy on life with a live audience.

There is a new realization, it seems, of the importance of developing ourselves, of becoming the CEO of our own life, or working as hard on ourselves as on our job, etc. These are from different things I have read in just the last few days. I’ve been afraid to go to Amazon and do a new search for books on personal development because of what I might find.

It’s taken over the airwaves and the printed waves.

So, is this a bad thing?

Sage commentary from Mark Twain applies here:
“Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it”

ooh! That says a lot when applied to this subject. Thanks Dave J.

I’ve seen that too Larry, and it amazes me. I had always heard the expression about change always starting from within, but a lot of what I had read until the last several months didn’t really “nail” that. The only problem now, as you allude to, is having too much advice out there to sort through. The KISS theory should reign here, don’t you think?

It just seems that it is the new buzz word for this year and yes KISS is needed more than ever.
