Communication, leadership among key skills for managers

June 24th, 2006 · 2 Comments

This is a great article with very specific ideas for becoming a better manager. Some of the tips cited are “help employees set goals” and “be a mentor” or “have a heart.” Some good points are made and at the end is another list of things you can do to better develop your employees. This is well worth your time to read.

Communication, leadership among key skills for managers:

Almost everybody thinks they are good managers. How many of these practices are you following? Communicate the big picture. Open communication helps foster loyalty and gives employees a sense of pride. It helps them understand how their work contributes to the company’s success. Set up a recurring meeting to inform your employees about business developments and answer questions. Share your workload with employees. Delegate projects according to people’s strengths and weaknesses, and let employees develop their own good work habits and leadership skills.

Thanks for the link Larry, this was a well written piece. A lot of it is just plain paying attention to the needs of your teammates - their need to be informed, listened to, recognized, and mentored, just to name a few. It’s like tuning in to each person’s particular frequency. Good food for thought. All the best Larry.

I agree! I’ve read it several times and it’s still good stuff.
