Motivation on the Run

Toastmasters continues to be an excellent resource for improving speaking and leadership skills. Today at the local club I am a member of, we celebrated (quietly) our two year anniversary. The Toastmaster (Rick) for today was the one that caught it and surprised us with a theme for the day that was a reflection of the last two years.

Some of the tidbits from the two year history of our club that Rick regaled us with included:

• Past “Word of the Days” (a long list)
• Past speeches (some memorable, some not)
• Lessons learned
• • wrap a package
  • sleep better at night
• fun speeches
• funny speeches
• failed attempts

And Scott did a great job with Table Topics, asking questions that brought back memories of the last two years.

It was interesting when Rick asked who was present at the first meeting, and four of us raised our hands. The club chartered with thirty-two members and currently has seventeen with four today from the original group. (BTW, there are more original members that are still part of the group, just missing today for various reasons.)

I have seen individuals (including me) grow in their speaking skills, and I have watched, with great elation, individuals grow in their leadership skills.
