Apprentice 101: Lack of leadership got Bethenny the boot

December 26th, 2005 · No Comments

I have not watched this “reality” show, but this story caught my eye. Leadership skills (or lack thereof) will gain you an advantage in places that might surprise you. Mrs. Stewart chose Dawna because of her leadership abilities and rejected Bethenny for her lack of the same. Even on television, leadership will buy you extra points and help you “win” in crucial contests.

Apprentice 101: Lack of leadership got Bethenny the boot

Martha Stewart selected Dawna as her apprentice in the final episode of her first (and last) season of “The Apprentice: Martha Stewart.” After 13 weeks of tasks ranging from creating salad dressings to revamping a hotel room, Dawna demonstrated a preference for leadership and business skills over creativity and passion — the words often used to describe Bethenny. Stewart said Bethenny was a spunky showoff but chose Dawna for her talented managerial skills and strong business acumen.

In sharp contrast to Bethenny, Dawna led a team that was squarely behind her; one member noted she was “the strongest leader I have ever met.” Bethenny failed to earn her team’s trust. She failed to demonstrate strong leadership or management skills.
