A new minor in Leadership could be a major event in the world of education. CMU has been teaching leadership course for 30 years, according to the article, but have now stepped it up a notch and provided the course work to acquire a minor in leadership.

Central Michigan University is leading the way in Michigan as the first public institution to offer a leadership minor.

“CMU has been establishing itself as an institution for leadership development,” said Dykstra Heinze, director of CMU’s Leadership Institute. “A leadership minor in CMU’s College of Education and Human Services, in association with the Leadership Institute’s current programs, will help CMU accomplish this.”

Creating the next generation of ethical leaders is a priority in a college education, he said.

“Leadership ability is needed by every area of employment in government, business, health, science, humanities, recreation, industry and the nonprofit sector,” said Heinze.
