The world is watching the most motivated cyclist in the world as this story from the Hong Kong Standard edition shows. It seems that every country in the World is covering the Tour de France this year and the World will see someone who is not willing to go quietly.
The Standard - Lance wastes no time firing warning to title challengers - Sports Section
Lance Armstrong began day one of his farewell Tour in familiar style on Saturday by crushing longtime rival Jan Ullrich and other leading challengers.
He leads Alexandre Vinokourov by 51 seconds, Ullrich by 66, and Ivan Basso by 84 after the fastest time trial in Tour history.
“I was hungry today,” Armstrong said. “I didn’t come here to ride a retirement race. I’m here to win and to show the world I’m committed to this race.”
With DirectTV, I watched the prologue time trial on OLN and not only did Lance “speak softly and carry a big stick,” he embarrassed his most intense competitor by passing him and making up the one minute start difference. Jan Ullrich has never been caught, let alone passed in any time trial before Saturday.
Yes, Lance is here to win his seventh and it should prove to be a most interesting 21 days as the Tour de France continues.
